Why do people always want to save trees?

frugal
Patrick D asked:

For my entire life I’ve heard teachers, bosses, and coworkers encourage people to be frugal with paper use by saying that we need to save trees? Or they refer to large physical documents as “lots of dead trees.”
Isn’t this flat out wrong?
I mean, total forest land in America has actually increased since we started recording it due in large part to the success of the logging industry. I mean, using a lot of paper creates demand which causes more trees to be planted.
Right? Who’s with me?
Please only respond if you understand supply and demand and you realize that trees are renewable. Please.
Actually, companies DO replant trees whenever they cut them down. They have rotating pieces of land. If we buy more wood products, they plant more standing forests to meet demand. If we stop buying wood products, they sell the land and it will probably be bought and razed for development.
